Shake it fast to make it flip! This motor skill game requires players to collect the most number of same-coloured tokens by randomly choosing one to place in the cup (face down), one at a time; and then shaking the cup as fast as you can until the token flips over. The choosing of tokens can be done taking turns - or even simultaneously for some fast-paced excitement; and the game ends when all tokens have been flipped over.
A simple and unstructured manipulative that encourages idea exploration and hands-on, self-directed play. At its most fundamental, Shake n' Flip can be used as a teaching aid for colour recognition with tots as young as 2; and at 3, the tokens can be used to create a memo game where players aim to uncover as many identical coloured pairs as possible. Observational skills can also be honed with the use of the die: simply give it a throw and depending on what coloured symbol it rests on, players then have to find and collect as many of the same coloured token as possible.
Looking for a challenge? Why not combine any two of the mechanics above? For instance, let's play a memo game - but instead of just randomly uncovering identical coloured pairs, we'll have to throw the die and find only an identical pair which matches in colour! Yikes, who ever thought this would turn into a serious brain workout!
What other ways can you think of to create some serious cognitive fun with Shake n' Flip?
• fine motor movement
• attention span and focus

• social and collaborative play
